Eriocephalus punctulatus, part of the Asteraceae family, is a distant relative of Roman (Anthemis nobilis) and German Blue (Matricaria recutita) Chamomiles, sharing subtle family traits. This essential oil is chemically rich, featuring a variety of soft, fruity esters that create its soothing scent, gentle character, and powerful benefits. Unique to the punctulatus species is the presence of azulene, a cool blue compound also found in German Chamomile, formed during distillation from the precursor matricine. The oil’s color ranges from blue to blue-green, depending on the flower content in each batch.
