Why is Natto so Good for Bone Health?
Vitamin K2 appears to be at the heart of natto’s impact on bone biology. Natto is the most concentrated food source of Vitamin K2 (MK-7) which functions to help build and maintain bone mass.
No other food even comes close to natto in levels of this bacterially derived micronutrient! Vitamin K2 found naturally in natto is almost exclusively the MK-7 long-chain isoform, which may be most beneficial for bone health. Do consult your healthcare provider before combining regular natto consumption with coumadin-type drugs to decide whether INR monitoring and dosage adjustment may be an option for you.
Pesto Natto Ramen Recipe
This delightful dish puts an Italian spin on Natto with a quick & easy prep!
All you need is about five minutes and a few ingredients:
Ingredients:
- Ramen noodles (fresh or dry instant)
- Pesto sauce
- Natto
Directions:
- Cook ramen in boiling water (2-3 mins depending on noodle type)
- Drain noodles
- Mix in pesto to taste
- Top each serving with natto, also mixed with pesto
I garnished my bowl here with cherry tomatoes & microgreens. Parmesan, fresh herbs, or whatever else calls to you from your fridge may be wonderful too.
