Maca, Powder, 6oz, Live Live & Organic
Maca is a powerful adaptogen for hormonal support.
Grown high in the Andes Mountains of Peru, Maca (Lepidium meyenii) has been used by the Inca and earlier Peruvian cultures for more than 1,500 years. For maximum health benefits, our Maca powder is a blend of a multitude of maca root colors found naturally in each harvest. It is grown without chemicals or herbicides, and the roots are sun-dried upon harvest.
Our Maca is processed in to powder using low temperatures to protect the nutritional value.
The temperature reached is close to 40 degrees Celsius. At that temperature, many consider it to be raw while others believe it to be cooked.
Maca is an extraordinary herb used at one time exclusively by Inca royalty.
It has been used as food for centuries in the high Andes. In fact, it is the highest growing food plant in the world, typically growing at altitudes of over 12,000 feet. Later, after Spanish conquest it was exported to Spain for the exclusive use of Spanish royalty. Today, it is used extensively by Peruvian physicians and is gradually becoming known by the rest of the world. What makes the herb so extraordinary is its rejuvenation effects on endocrine
glands. Specifically, the herb stimulates the pituitary-hypothalamus axis of the brain with four alkaloids resulting in an increase in the production of endocrine gland hormones such as are secreted by ovaries, testes, adrenals, pancreas, thyroid and so forth. The herb has no direct hormonal effects in itself.
The herb is able to increase levels of these hormones without a negative feedback response. For example, in HRT or hormone replacement therapy, in which women take estrogen and progesterone hormones for menopause, the addition of exogenous (from out of the body) hormones causes the glands to cease what production they have. Sex glands atrophy (shink) and become useless. Maca, by stimulating the pituitary itself, makes the body's own glands produce more natural hormone.
The effect is more energy and vitality for men and women, especially those aging and past their prime. Post or peri-menopausal women who have been on HRT may usually take Maca instead. Amazingly enough, it also seems to work for women who have had hysterectomies. Women who take Maca report less fatigue, greater energy, less stress, more bone density, and relief from hot flashes and night sweats. Men who have potency problems find relief from that as well (MiraForte also contains Maca.)
Among the list of benefits associated with this herb for women are:
